Spider Wing trouble

Last week, we again completed the Barad Guldur raid, again on easy-mode with each of the three bosses. Next time out, it will definitely be time to start having a go at the challenge-mode – at least on Durchest and the Twins. Until radiance is removed, there’s no realistic way that we’ll get a shot at the LT in challenge-mode.

Elsewhere in game, I’ve being trying to finish Enedwaith on my Lore-master. All the non-repeatable quests are now done, and I’m just trying to grind out Kindred reputation with the Grey Company. The number of repeatable quests for Grey Company reputation (only four) makes this annoying. I’ll probably do it one more time – on my guardian – but that will be it. My rune-keeper, who I am currently completing the Volume 2 epilogue quests in Mirkwood with, will definitely NOT be doing anything in Enedwaith, apart from the Volume 3 quests.

Talking of my rune-keeper, I joined the back-end of a kinnie Sammath Gul run last night, and promptly ticked both Gorothul and Demafaer off my ‘to kill’ list. I didn’t win any nice loot, but hey, I didn’t have to grind through either of the first two bosses, either.

We followed SG up with a run though the Helegrod Spider wing (at level 65). Is it me, or is the last fight in this instance insanely difficult? After two hours of trying to kill Zaudru, we gave up – and there seems to be little or no help out there on the forums. Is there a big secret, and does everyone have a problem with the last fight in the Spider Wing?

Oh yes – I gave Rift a try. After three or so hours of play, I’ve decided it’s not for me. The lore leaves me cold, as does the game play. It looks nice, but that’s about all. But that’s just me – I’m sure many, many folks will love it. My only gripe is that I spent my ill gotten euros on a game I almost certainly won’t play again.

Enedwaith Reputation Items

Now that I’m gaining kindred status with both the Algraig and the Grey Company [with my various toons], I’ve been taking some interest in the reputation rewards offered by these two Enedwaith factions.

One of the first things I noticed was the duplication of an item – ‘Arthgarab’ – at least in name, if not in stats, between the Grey Company reputation vendor and an item dropped by Istum in Dar Narbugud.

Arthgarab and Arthgarab

Arthgarab and Arthgarab - which is the fake?!

As you can see, Arthgarab is the name of a light armour head-piece in two different forms…the teal version (which I use when radiance is not required) on my LM. The non-teal version comes from the Grey Company. Presumably, the duplicate naming of the Grey Company version is a bug?!

As for the other reputation items offered by the Algraig and the Grey Company, these are the ones that offer the most interest to me (I’m not commenting on cosmetics, emotes, mounts or housing items – just equipable items for use in end-game content)…

The token & heavy shield of ‘Resilience’ are a nice pairing for a guardian:

The Enedwaith token & shield of ‘Warding’ look a good best for a warden (although I’m no warden expert!):

The Ededwaith token and light shield of ‘Perseverance’ are an ok combo for a minstrel:

The Enedwaith token and cloak of Elegance could be used by a variety of classes:

The Grace set isn’t a bad bet for any tactical class:

Enedwaith Rep Grind

All the forum posts, pre the November [2010] patch/update, in relation to gaining reputation with the two factions in Enedwaith, were along the lines of how much harder it was to gain kindred reputation with the Algraig, than with the Grey Company. Now however, post the November patch, this situation seems to have reversed. As I mentioned in a previous post, I only recently got my first toon to kindred rep with either of the two factions – the Algraig; and now I’m finding that it’s way more ‘grindy’ to get to kindred with the Grey Company.

I think the epic quests, plus the non-repeatable quests, just about got me to ally with the Grey Company – since when I’ve been running the four daily repeatable quests that give Grey Company reputation, on a regular basis – but heck, is it tedious! By my count, I’ll have to run each of those four repeatable quests no less than thirty times (i.e. approx. 10 times per toon) to get the three toons [that I currently have in Enedwaith] to kindred with the Grey Company. Is it worth it, I ask myself?
