Durchest (HM) RIP

So Isenguard is still a month away. I’m not playing too much, at the moment – probably about an hour or so a night, on average. A wee bit more over weekends. So what have I been up to? Well, I’m still tipping away at deeds on my level 65 toons; plus working on getting my skirmish soldiers up to level 65 together with all of their equipped traits.

I’m also still levelling my burglar. Since my last post, I’ve moved him on to level 43, completing the vast majority of the solo quests in Evendim en route, as well as hitting kindred with the Wardens of Annuminas. I now have him in Aughaire, questing in south-western Angmar – mainly in the hope of acquiring page drops for my three legendary skill books. So far I have six out of the twelve pages [that can be collected in Angmar]. Providing that I manage to get the remaining six pages before I hit level 45, I’ll then head up to Forochel to continue levelling.

Grouping wise, I missed out on my kin’s Helegrod runs last week, due to real-life stuff, but I did tag along on a Barad Guldur run last Monday. I brought my rune-keeper for her first outing in BG, and we even managed to kill Durchest in challenge mode. This is the first time that my kin has successfully managed this feat, so we were delighted. Mind you, we couldn’t get past the Twins on the following night, so we obviously had used up all our luck…

Dusting off a burglar

Posted in Diary, lotro with tags , , , on August 14, 2011 by Corleth

The lull before Isenguard is released is, unsurprisingly, persisting. I rather suspect that a good few folk are over on Bullroarer, testing – but of course, they have signed NDAs so we don’t know for sure!

As per my previous post, I’m continuing to skirmish and deed with my level 65 toons. During skirmishing, I’ve found that I’m picking up a good number of ‘Third Marks’, so I’ve converting these into 2nd age weapons for my toons that currently only have 3rd age ones (namely my guardian, RK and mini); my loremaster is already pretty well equipped, and all of my level 65 toons have 2nd age class items (thanks mainly to the epic quest-line in Enedwaith). In summary, I’m still enjoying the change of pace that this pre-Isenguard period has produced, and my level 65 toons should be well geared and traited when Isenguard arrives.

The only bit of grouping that I’ve done recently has been for runs through Helegrod. My kin are trying to get enough folk though the first three wings (drake, spider and giant) so that we can have a bash at the dragon wing. The Helegrod dragon wing is a 24 man raid however, so the feeling is we’ll need to team up with another kin to get the numbers – I’d say, at best, we’ll get 18 or so from our own kin…the provisional date for our initial assault on the dragon wing has been set for 20th September (just before Isenguard’s release)….I’ll keep you informed!

Oh yes, one last thing…I haven’t been able to resist playing my long-neglected burglar a little during this ‘quieter’ period. As such, he’s now moving through Evendim and has progressed from level 35 through to level 40, since my last post. I like the ‘revamped’ Evendim, very much. Since it was updated (as part of Update 2) questing flows much more naturally, and getting reputation with the Wardens of Annuminas is now almost too easy. The only part of the ‘new’ Evendim that I’ve skipped has been the North Cotton Farms quests – that place was just too much of a maze for me to be bothered with! Anyhow, after Evendim, I’m going to head directly up to Forochel, skipping Angmar. Let’s see how far I can get before Isenguard hits town…

Snoozing in the Summer Sun

Posted in Diary with tags , , , on July 12, 2011 by Corleth

Forgive me father, for I have sinned – it’s been nearly a month since my last blog post…(confession over). I’ve actually been away on my hols for a couple of weeks in the interim, so that doesn’t count 😉

Anyhow, things seem to be very quiet in the world of LoTRO. The Summer Festival has been and gone. I didn’t do a whole lot, to be honest. I tried some of the fishing quests and, with the rewards, gathered about 70 pots of Saffron’s Lipstick to use on unsuspecting passers by. I’d venture to suggest that many folks are getting mightily peeved with all the fire-breathing and kissing going on. The new deeds have a lot to answer for!

At level cap, I’ve been fairly quiet. I tried out the Inn of the Forsaken instance (didn’t much like it), run though Stoneheight (tier 2)  a couple of times, plus The Lost Temple and Sari Surma – both on tier 1.

Half my kin seems to be away on their summer breaks too – so raiding in Ost Dunhoth has come to a complete stop. Not that I mind as I’ve long since come to the conclusion that the tier 2 OD runs are just too damn hard. I really don’t need that sort of aggravation. Maybe we’ll have another go at the tier-2 runs when we get to level 75 😛

Talking of which, The release for The Rise of Isenguard is now only two and a half months away. I’ve signed up for it already, but my excitement levels aren’t overflowing this far out from release. Come the Autumn, I’ll be suitably worked up, I’m sure. In the meantime, I’ve been working on my rune-keeper and minstrel – equipping them with second age, level 65, legendary weapons….that will of course be out of date in two and a half months…the joys!

Isenguard Pre-payment issues with Digital River

Posted in Diary, lotro with tags , , , , , , on June 13, 2011 by Corleth

The ‘Rise of Isenguard‘ expansion became available for pre-purchse last week. I deceided to take the plunge, and paid for my selected option using my Visa debit card.

Now, any payments made with my Visa debit card come straight out of my bank account, so I’m aware within a day or so of making a purchase that involves foreign exchange rates, exactly how much I’ve paid over. In this case, the $49.99 came though as €32.04 – plus a foreign exchange transaction fee of €0.60 (odd?). These amounts were debited from my current account last Friday, and are clearly labelled ‘Turbine’.

However, on Sunday I received an email from ‘Digital River‘, who seem to be the company handling the Isenguard pre-purchase program for Turbine, stating that they had failed to receive the required payment within three days, and that, as such, my purchase had been cancelled.

An email to Digital River failed to yield any positive feedback – they only re-stated their position that they hadn’t recived payment and therefore my order was cancelled. I was told to contact Turbine if I had an issue with this position.

So, I’ve now raised a ticket with Turbine’s accounting department. I’m unsure what is going on, to be honest, but clearly there has been a fair mix up somewhere along the line. All I know, is that the required money has left my bank account, and that my pre-order has been likely been cancelled. That said, the in game rewards that came with my pre-order (25% XP boost, various cosmetics, and three new mounts) are all still intact. So maybe my order hasn’t actually been cancelled?

I’ll be posting further updates to this little mess, over the coming days, as and when I receive feedback from my ticket…Turbine, sort it out!

*EDIT*

It turns out that my purchase has not been cancelled. When I placed the order, I initially tried to pay via PayPal. This payment failed to work (an unknown error occurred when trying to access the PayPal website) – so I used my Visa debit card instead. It has now come to light that the Digital River email was in relation to the failed PayPal payment, and not in relation to the subsequntly successful Visa card payment.

Confusion all around, but alls well that ends well.
